QUINCY — Nolan Ard (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) homered in both ends of the Carl Sandburg College baseball team’s doubleheader split at Quincy JV on Sunday. The Chargers dropped the opener 5-3 before winning 11-6 in the nightcap.

Sandburg (2-4) had just seven hits in Game 2 but drew 12 walks took advantage of four Quincy errors. A five-run third inning lifted the Chargers to an early 7-0 lead.

Ard’s fifth-inning homer was his third of the young season, tying his total from last year. Sophomore Marty Mennenga (Rantoul, Ill./Paxton-Buckley-Loda) went 2 for 2 with two walks, two runs and two RBIs in Game 2. Sophomore shortstop Angel Figueroa (East Chicago, Ind./Bishop Noll) also had a pair of hits and two driven in.
