GALESBURG — The top two scorers on the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team have earned All-Region IV District L honors. Freshman Maddy Lowe (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) was named to the first team and sophomore Sabrina Clay (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) was named to the second team.

As one of the top three vote-getters, Lowe, a 5-foot-8 forward, also is an All-America nominee. She played in 24 of the Chargers’ 25 games during the regular season, leading the team in scoring (13.4 points per game), total field goals (107), free throw percentage (75.8 percent) and 3-point percentage (40.3 percent).

Her efficiency beyond the arc ranks 23rd in the nation, and her 60 total 3s are good for 40th in the country. Lowe also ranks second among Chargers in field goal percentage (45.5) and third in total rebounds (102) and rebounds per game (4.3).

Lowe has scored at least 20 points times, including in three of Sandburg’s final four regular season contests. She scored a season-best 23 in back-to-back games Feb. 14 and 16 against Black Hawk and Illinois Valley, respectively. She also pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds against IVCC for her first career double-double.

An Arrowhead Conference champion in both of her seasons with the Chargers, Clay, a 5-10 forward, appeared in all 25 of Sandburg’s regular season games, starting all but one. Her 9.9 points per game were second to Lowe on the team, and she led the Chargers in virtually every defensive category, including rebounds (6.5 per game), steals (1.8) and blocks (1.6). Her 39 blocks rank 32nd in the country.

Clay scored a career-best 25 points Dec. 15 against Augustana JV and had a team-leading three double-doubles in the regular season. She matched her career high with 11 rebounds on three occasions. Clay also set career highs for steals in a game with five Dec. 10 against Elgin and Feb. 14 against Black Hawk and for blocks in a game with five against Loras JV on Feb. 4.

Lowe and Clay will lead the 15-10 Chargers into postseason play when they host Oakton at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Region IV District D tournament.
