GALESBURG — Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball sophomore Shane Maple (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) has been named to the All-Region IV District 3 second team for his play for the Chargers this season.
A 6-foot-2 guard, Maple led Sandburg in per-game averages for scoring (14.4), assists (2.9) and steals (1.5) during the regular season. He also leads the team in total field goals (159) and free throw percentage (83.9 percent), making 78 of 93 foul shots. That mark at the line was good for third among all players in Region IV Division II.
Maple played in all 30 regular season games for the Chargers, starting 29. His 4.5 rebounds per contest are good for second on the team, and he’s third in 3-pointers made (37) and 3-point percentage (34.3).
Maple scored a career-best 30 points, highlighted by a 10-for-10 night from the stripe, in the Chargers’ overtime loss Nov. 4 against top-ranked Kirkwood (Iowa). He recorded his second career double-double Dec. 9 when he had 19 points and a personal-best 12 rebounds to go with seven assists in Sandburg’s win at McHenry County.
He’ll lead the Chargers into postseason play when they host McHenry County at 7 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Region IV District 3 tournament.
