Sandburg Men’s Hoops to Open Region IV Tourney at Home

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team will open postseason play by hosting McHenry County at 7 p.m. Thursday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium in the quarterfinals of the Region IV District 3 tournament.
 

The Chargers (16-14) earned the third seed in the tournament while the Scots (8-21) are seeded sixth. The teams met Dec. 9 in the regular season, a 66-50 Sandburg road victory.
 

The Chargers enter the tournament having won three of their last four games and five of their last seven.
 

The winner will face second-seeded Oakton or seventh-seeded Black Hawk in the semifinals at noon Sunday at Waubonsee. The championship is scheduled for 5 p.m. March 11 at Waubonsee, with the winner advancing to the NJCAAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament from March 21-25 in Danville.
