DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Carl Sandburg College softball team opened its season with a pair of losses Sunday afternoon at the Ambrose Dome. The Chargers dropped a 25-0 decision to fourth-ranked Kirkwood (Iowa) and lost 10-2 in five innings to Southeastern (Iowa).

The Chargers (0-2) struck first against Southeastern, getting an RBI single in the first inning from Chelsea Lesniewski (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) after Ashley Anglin (Seymour, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) reached on an error to open the game.

The Braves struck for eight runs in the second before Anglin and Lesniewski teamed up again in the third. Anglin led off the inning with a bunt single and scored on Lesniewski’s double to center.

Becca Tharp (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) doubled in her first at-bat against Kirkwood, one of four hits for the Chargers against the Eagles.

The Chargers will be off until their Spring Break trip to the Florida panhandle, where they’ll play eight games from March 11-15.
