GALESBURG — Three Carl Sandburg College cross country runners have been named 2016 Scholar All-Americans by the NJCAA Cross Country Coaches Association.

Freshman Sebastian Arteaga (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) and sophomore Alfredo Montoya (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth) were among the 87 honorees nationwide on the men’s side, while sophomore Shayla Kozak (Normal, Ill./Normal West) was among the 120 women’s runners to earn the distinction.

To be named a Scholar All-American, runners must have had a grade point average of at least 3.40 during the fall semester.

All three Chargers were named to the Sandburg dean’s list during the fall semester. Montoya and Kozak have been on the dean’s list each of their first three semesters at Sandburg and earned Academic All-Arrowhead Conference honors as freshmen.
