GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team’s season came to an end Wednesday afternoon with a 4-0 loss at South Suburban in the second round of the Region IV tournament.

The Bulldogs (8-9), the No. 6 seed out of the Premiership Group, struck for all four goals in the second half after the teams played a scoreless first 45 minutes. South Suburban connected on a free kick from 35 yards out in the first minute of the second half to open the scoring.

The Chargers, seeded third in the Championship Group, trailed 3-0 in the 82nd minute when they awarded a penalty kick but were unable to convert. The Bulldogs added another goal in the closing minutes.

Sandburg finishes its season 7-7-1 in its first season under coach Kevin Mahlan, but the Chargers more than doubled their win total from a season ago. After going winless in group play last season, Sandburg finished third in the Championship Group this year and played for a share of the title in its last regular season match.
