OGLESBY — Carl Sandburg College men’s golfer Ryan Hansen (Neponset, Ill./Kewanee) qualified for the NJCAA Division II national tournament Saturday after finishing in a tie for sixth overall in the Region IV tournament.
Hansen posted rounds of 80, 73 and 75 at Deer Park and Senica’s Oak Ridge to finish the 54-hole tournament with a 228 total. Hansen finished four shots back of runner-up Ram Rogue of Waubonsee and nine behind medalist Austin Jump of Black Hawk.
Hansen earned the fourth of six individual qualifying spots out of the region for the national tournament, which will take place May 23-26 at Longbow Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. It’s the fifth year in a row and ninth time in the last 10 years the Chargers will be represented at nationals.
Sandburg shot 957 as a team for the tournament, placing fifth out of eight squads. Black Hawk (907) ran away with the region championship, and runner-up Waubonsee (933) also qualified for the national tournament as a team.
Nate Bizarri (84-78-85—247), Michael Curry (78-81-90—249), Colin Price (83-90-78—251) and Braxton Prather (94-78-84—256) accounted for Sandburg’s other scores. The Chargers’ round of 310 at Oak Ridge matched their second-lowest of the fall season. Sandburg shot 325 at Deer Park and posted a 322 in a round that was split between the two courses after Thursday’s opening round was postponed because of inclement weather.
