Beetler Paces Chargers With 13th-Place Finish at Wartburg

WARTBURG, Iowa — Anastasia Beetler finished 13th overall in the women’s race to pace the Carl Sandburg College cross country teams Saturday in the Dan Huston Invite.


Beetler’s time of 25 minutes, 7 seconds over the 6-kilometer course left her just 11 seconds away from posting a top-10 finish out of the 71 competitors. The Chargers’ Andrea Gordon was 32nd in 26:26, followed by Shayla Koza (44th, 27:36), Ashlynn Steel (56th, 29:36) and Lakin Galloway (58th, 29:50).


Sandburg’s women’s team placed sixth of eight teams, totaling 149 points. Host Wartburg won with 25 points.


Brennan Foley led the men’s squad, finishing 57th in 30:23 over the 8K course. Also competing for Sandburg were Dylan Brooks (69th, 32:05), Sebastian Arteaga (75th, 33:04), Amier Hardges (83rd, 35:35), Tanner Owen (84th, 35:36) and Alfredo Montoya (86th, 37:22).


The Chargers took eighth in the men’s standings with 226 points. Wartburg finished with 32 points, placing all five of its scorers among the top nine.


Sandburg’s next race is the Bradley Invite at 3 p.m. Friday at Donovan Park in Peoria.
