LASALLE — Freshman Ryan Hansen tied for sixth overall with a 4-over-par 76 to lead the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team in the Oak Ridge Classic on Friday.
Hansen shot 38 on both the front and back at Senica’s Oak Ridge to pace the Chargers, who placed eighth with a total of 327. Hansen finished one shot back of a tie for third and three back of medalist Ryan Hurley of Black Hawk.
Playing in their final tune-up before this week’s Region IV tournament, the Chargers were three shots behind Highland for seventh place and five behind Illinois Valley for sixth. Black Hawk “Gold” shot 302 to win the tournament by 12 strokes.
Nate Bizarri and Braxton Prather each shot 83 for the Chargers, and freshman Anthony Neve rounded out Sandburg’s team score with an 85. Freshman Michael Curry carded an 89. Sophomore Colin Price, playing as an individual, turned in a solid round of 81.
The 54-hole Region IV tournament kicks off at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oak Ridge. The second round is 10 a.m. Friday at Deer Park in Oglesby before returning to Oak Ridge for the final round at 10 a.m. Saturday.
