Chargers Take 6th in Fighting Scot Invite

MONMOUTH — The Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team finished sixth in the Fighting Scot Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Gibson Woods.


All five Chargers golfers placed within 10 shots and 10 places of each other in the 36-hole tournament. Callie Raders paced Sandburg by tying for 21st with a two-day total of 91-93—184, and Carrie Raders was two shots behind in 25th after shooting 91-95—186.


Jenna Heck (97-91—188) was 26th, Morgan Newton (96-93—189) tied for 27th and Katlyn Weber (101-93—194) tied for 31st for Sandburg.


The Chargers shot 375 in the first round, then improved by five shots on Saturday for a two-day total of 745. Central “Red” leapfrogged the Chargers in the second round to take fifth by seven strokes over Sandburg. Central totaled 667 to beat Illinois College by 17 shots for the team title. Knox’s Samantha Nichols shot an even-par 72 in the second round to win medalist honors with a 157.


The Chargers will finish their fall season with the Clark Invite on Saturday and Sunday at Eagle Ridge in Galena.
