GALESBURG — Carl Sandburg College received the third-highest ranking of Illinois community colleges and rated among the top 30 percent nationally in a list of 2015’s top community colleges compiled by WalletHub.
Sandburg was rated behind only Shawnee Community College and Kankakee Community College among 31 institutions in Illinois that were listed, and it ranked 194th out of the 670 U.S. community colleges listed.
Sandburg was rated second only to Highland among Illinois colleges in the Cost & Financing category, and it was ranked sixth in the state in Classroom Experience. The College’s highest national ranking in any single category was Education Outcomes (140th), which assessed first-retention rate, graduation rate, transfer rate and credentials (degrees and certificates) awarded per 100 full-time-equivalent students.
“We’re thrilled to see that Carl Sandburg College is considered not only of the best community colleges in Illinois but in the nation as well,” President Dr. Lori Sundberg said. “We’re committed to doing everything we can to give our students the opportunity to succeed, and this shows that our students are responding positively to those initiatives.”
This news comes on the heels of a report last week from the National Student Clearinghouse that showed Sandburg performed well above the nationwide mark in numerous categories for completion rate among students who enrolled full-time for the fall 2008 semester.
